Ski for Heart is Saturday, February 11th. This is a fundraiser for Omega House and Swedetown Trails. Ski or snowshoe 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. Register starting at 8:30 a.m. Come on out for good causes and a nice active day. Enjoy food and door prizes at the Chalet too!
Flyers and pledge envelopes are available at Aspirus Keweenaw, Portage Health, Omega House and Swedetown Chalet. Not available on the 11th? Choose one day during the week of February 5 - 10 to ski or snowshoe. Pick up a pledge envelope and record the date, time and distance.

Annual kids fun event at the Maasto Hiihto trails (starting from the chalet at the Hancock Driving Park). Registration opens at 1 pm, with the Barnelopet starting at 2 pm.
The Green Film Series, sponsored by a number of local organizations, will show “Addicted to Plastic” on Thursday, Feb. 16, at 7 pm in Hesterberg Hall at the MTU forestry building. The film focuses on the worldwide production and environmental effects of plastic. The showing will be followed by dessert, coffee and a facilitated discussion.
In preparation for the retro ski fest (2/25, not 2/18) there will be a pine tar clinic Monday evening 2/20, 7:30 - 8:30 at the Hancock chalet. Pine tar is used to seal the bottom of wood skis; it also acts as a binder for wax or a wax itself in very cold conditions. Bring your wood skis and a propane torch if you have one. The "Tri Winter Cup" will be held February 25 & 26, 2012. It is all day Saturday and late morning Sunday.
The day starts off with a 9 mile ski loop, followed by the 9 mile snowshoe loop and the 9 mile open category loop. Open category includes snow bikes, a new (human-powered) invention, skis or snowshoes. Hearty soups, snacks and hot drinks will be served all day in the Copper Harbor Community Building. Racers can participate in one or all three events. Prizes for male and female in each race. The "Cup" winners will place best over all three races. Awards and live music afterward at the Mariner North.
$25 entry fee for pre-registered individuals (coming soon) at www.copperharbortrails.org. $35 entry fee the day of.
Sunday will offer free guided back country tours for all abilities.
