7:00 pm: Green Film Series: "The Messenger"

The next in the Green Film Series, "The Messenger" will be shown Monday, April 17, at 7 p.m. in G002 Hesterberg Hall in the Michigan Tech Forestry Building. The evening includes the film, a facilitated discussion, and refreshments. The film is free (but a $3 donation is suggested.
Based upon the award-winning book, Silence of the Songbirds, by Stutchbury, The Messenger is an investigation into the causes of songbird mass depletion, and the people who are working to turn the tide. The film takes viewers on a visually stunning, emotional journey revealing how issues facing birds also pose daunting implications for our planet. David Flaspohler, professor in the School of Forest Resources and Environmental Science, will lead the discussion.
The event is cosponsored by the Lake Superior Stewardship Initiative, the Michigan Tech Great Lakes Research Center, the Keweenaw Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, and the Keweenaw Land Trust.

10:00 am: Gear Swap
April 22, 2017
The Copper Country Ski Tigers will hold their annual used outdoor gear swap Saturday, April 22, 2017, at the Houghton High School multi-purpose room. Buy and sell outdoor gear – bikes, kayaks, canoes, camping gear, skis, snowboards, outdoor clothing, or any other item for the silent sports enthusiast.
Drop off items to be sold on either Friday (4/21) from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m. or Saturday (4/22) 9:00 to 9:45 a.m. Sale begins at 10 a.m. on Saturday and ends at noon. Pick up unsold items and/or checks for sold equipment from 1-2 p.m. Saturday. There is a 15% commission, with a $50 maximum, charged on all items sold. All proceeds are used to support the successful Cooper Country Ski Tigers racing team (State Champions 5-years running).
The Ski Tigers will also summer wax your skis and snowboards for a nominal fee.
11:00 am: Sisu Shuffle
April 22, 2017 –
Join a fun 5k run/walk at UP Health System-Portage in Hancock. The shuffle is a fun event for people of all ages and all skill levels. Complete the course in any way you see fit — walk, run, jog, skip or shuffle!
