9:00 am: Beat the Buckthorn at Swedetown
August 8, 2018
What: Glossy Buckthorn Work Day
Where: Swedetown Trails in Calumet, Michigan (Osceola & Swedetown Rds)
When: Wednesday, August 8 (anytime between 9 am and 3 pm)
Bring: Water, gloves, sunscreen and bug repellent. Strongly suggested to wear sturdy footwear and long-sleeved clothing. Tools provided or bring clippers and loppers if you have some.
Glossy buckthorn is a non native shrub, which has been taking over Swedetown’s woods and wetland areas. Its dense thickets create extra work for trail maintenance and crowd out native species.
A work day is planned on Wednesday, August 8, to slow down this infestation. A hard-working crew from Keweenaw Invasive Species Management Area (KISMA) will be joining us. They will share their extensive knowledge of invasive species in the Keweenaw and will be happy to answer any questions you might have about invasive species management.
Check in at Swedetown Chalet at 9 a.m. for maps and direction to various work sites. KISMA crew will be working from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. but volunteers can make a contribution by working with us for two hours or as much time as is feasible for your schedule. Mountain bikes can be useful for getting from Swedetown Chalet to the work sites.
We hope you can join us. Please rsvp to firstname.lastname@example.org.
