Commitment
to the Environment
Organic
cotton T-Shirts. Over a half pound of pesticides are required to
produce the cotton for one conventional cotton t-shirt. Pesticides
are a major pollutant of rivers and lakes.
Breakfast
served to runners features organic and locally grown foods. Organic
farming restores and maintains healthy soil. Locally grown foods
minimize fossil fuels required to transport foods long distances.
Food
scraps from breakfast are composted. Nutrients returned to build
soil, not a landfill.
Breakfast
served with real cups, plates, and dinnerware. No Styrofoam, paper
plates, or plastic utensils. No landfill contributions.
Entry
form printed with soy ink on 20 percent minimum post consumer content.
Race
course marked with reusable flags. No spray paint or other toxic
markings on soil.
Runners
strongly encouraged to carry a water bottle while racing and refill
it at aid stations. This reduces paper cup waste. We also use cups
with high recycled content.
