The 14th annual UP Health System–Portage Labor Day Bridge Walk/Run will take place Monday, Sept 4. Registration begins at 8:15 a.m. at the Kestner Waterfront Park (Chutes and Ladders) in Houghton, with the five-mile event beginning at 8:30 a.m. The walk is free, and sponsored by the city of Hancock, city of Houghton, UP Health System – Portage and Michigan’s Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness. Runners and walkers across the state are doing similar events, inspired by the annual Labor Day five-mile walk over the Mackinac Bridge. The Breakers to Bridge Paddle Festival will take place Saturday, September 9. The signature 10-mile paddle event starts at 10 am at the Stanton Township boat launch, just south of the Houghton breakers, with the finish at the East Houghton waterfront park. Shorter guided paddles and kayak demos will be available during the after at the park. The event is sponsored by the Keweenaw Land Trust and the Michigan Tech Outdoor Adventure Program. The 9th Annual Miners Revenge will take place July 15-16 Greenland, MI. Downhill, cross country and kids races are July 15, with the enduro race on July 16. The Keweenaw Treadfest mountain bike race takes place Saturday, June 17, 2017, at the Michigan Tech Trails. The event includes 12- and 25-mile events, plus 3- and 1.5-mile races for youth. The long races start at 10 am, with the youth races rolling out at 2 pm. Everything takes place at the main Michigan Tech trailhead off of Sharon Avenue. See the registration web page for details.
