6:00 pm: Citizen Night Ski Race Series

The Citizen’s Night Ski Race Series hosted by the MTU Nordic Ski Team and Tech Trails Staff is on for the 2020 Nordic season! This free ski series under the lights of the Tech Trails provides all with the opportunity to enjoy the sport of Nordic skiing with fellow community members, family and friends with fun races for all ages and all ability levels!

  • Tuesday Nights: ​Feb 4th, Feb 25th, March 24th
  • FREE (with trail pass or membership)
  • 3km & 5km mass start races or fun-ski @ 6pm!
  • Set loops through series to measure your season-long improvement!
  • Skate & Classic participation options
  • Prizes! Michigan Tech and ski swag for most improved,Grand Champion, and best costume!
  • Social hour 6:30-7:30pm: S’mores, hot cocoa, and bonfire following all races!

2:00 pm: Barnelopet

Kids! Join us for a fun day of skiing at Hancock’s Maasto Hiihto trails. When you complete the course, you’ll be awarded a medallion and be served hot chocolate and cookies plus healthy snacks to celebrate.

Parents: Registration is open for kids ages 3 through 17 years old, from 1:00 – 1:45 pm at the Four Seasons Chalet in Hancock (County Fairgrounds). This event is free for the whole family.

The Barneløpet features groomed and marked courses of 1, 2, 4, and 6 km to accommodate children of differing ages and abilities. Parents can ski with their children if they wish, to make it a family outing!

Start Times are staggered according to race distance. There are no age requirements to register for a specific race; parents, please know before you register what distance your child will have fun skiing. Start times are subject to change according to weather conditions.

The first group of racers will start at 2:00, with subsequent groups spaced several minutes apart after that.

12:00 pm: Glide N Gorge


February 29, 2020

The 11th annual Glide N Gorge will again be held on the Saturday of Copper Dog weekend. Come on out for great fun and even better eats from noon until 3pm at the Maasto Hiihto ski trails in Hancock.

Tickets for this event are $20 for adults; we invite kids and well-behaved dogs to come for FREE! Get your tickets early – they go for $25 at the door. Consider purchasing extra tickets to give to friends. You’ll be supporting the rehabilitation of the Swedetown Gorge trails by contributing to this annual fundraiser that has taken on greater urgency since the Father’s Day Flood of 2018.
