Hello, this evening we dragged the entire system including the Multi Use Trails. The skate deck should setup overnight. The classic tracks aren't looking very good, and there is lots of debris surfacing. Enjoy the last few weeks of skiing.

The main trailhead for Swedetown is on Osceola Road in Calumet near the intersection with Swedetown Road. There is a trailhead at 24984 Woodland Road with parking for the Multi-Use Trails (MUT) where dogs and winter walkers are welcome. Parking lot for Papa Bear ski trail and Creek Loop Snowshoe Trail is near the intersection of M-203 and Cloverland Road at 22500 State Highway M-203. Dear Trails Members,

We would like to share an update regarding our spring grooming operations at the Michigan Tech Trails.

Currently, we are navigating some unexpected staffing challenges due to health issues within our grooming team. Specifically, Brian is out for the foreseeable future, which is impacting our regular schedule. As a result, we will have limited grooming during the spring season as we coordinate with our existing staff to maintain the trails as effectively as possible. Our goal is to establish a consistent plan and get back on a regular schedule starting next week.

We apologize for the impact this may have on your routine and appreciate your patience and continued support for our world-class skiing environment. Please don't hesitate to reach out to Joel Isaacson if you have any questions or concerns.

Dogs must be leashed and under owners' control at all times and are restricted to the Tolkien, Nara, Isle Royale & Superior trails via the following access points - softball fields, Nara and Tolkien. Churning Rapids Snow Bike

Saturday morning may be one of the last chances to get a snow bike ride for a while. Trails are still smooth and it will freeze tonight, so riding should be very good until the sun starts to soften them on Saturday morning. After that, the temperature is not forecast to drop below freezing at night for the next 7 days and there is a fair bit of rain in the forecast starting on Sunday. That will probably put an end to our snow bike trail grooming this year. Hopefully you got out for some good snow rides this winter!

10+ miles of trails groomed for fat bikes (3.8+ inch tires) - also open to snowshoes and cross country skis. The main access points are Tomasi Road in Hancock, Christensen Road, and High Point Road. For shorter rides, the latter two trailheads (both off of state highway M-203) provide access to the good single track more quickly. For further information and photographs, please visit Facebook.

We're still skiing in Alberta. Previously packed and dragged base (Friday) just had 4 inches of powder rolled. Nice spring skiing, might as well make the most of this never ending winter. Spooked a Woodcock from a small plot of bare ground beside the trail and heard Cranes while skiing!

The trails at the Ford Center in Alberta just opened in January 2026. The entire out and back including the three loops is nearly 10k. The trails are groomed for classic skiing only with ample room for snowshoeing without damaging the ski lanes. The terrain is gently rolling through mixed hard and soft woods with some nice long views. The trailhead is located off the big parking lot behind the main dorm with restrooms available across the village at the main office.

Trails are pet friendly and multi-use (classic cross country skiing, snow shoeing, and snow biking). They can be accessed either from Maasto Hiihto trails OR from a trailhead at Christensen Road, off of State Highway M-203. Users can expect an intimate, backcountry type of experience as the trails wind through the John Christensen wildlife preserve. Please pick up droppings and keep your dog under control (use a leash if needed). Trails can be used in any direction. Please do not walk on groomed trails without snowshoes OR step or bike on the set tracks. Walkers in boots can cause damage to the groomed surface, which can trip up skiers.

Happy Easter everyone! The sun is shining and its a beautiful day. I was able to get loops 1-3 and 5 dragged to pack in the new snow we got yesterday. The trails are looking gorgeous this afternoon. Please keep an eye on if you are leaving divots, as they get harder to fix with the less snow. I would let the trails firm up for a little bit and then they should be good to go! Enjoy!

Chassell Snowshoe Trails

I apologize for the for not updating trail conditions. The last 3-4 weeks have had the annual winter end seasonal issues with the fluctuating weather conditions. In the past I have mentioned that people should stay off the trails when it's too mild to be using the trails at a given time. The public appears to have their own views when that happens. This leads to 'potholes' in the trails which then leads to less enjoyable snowshoeing especially when it freezes hard after an even short one day afternoon thaw. Then there is the annual appearance of persons hiking on the trails since they will not sink too much or do sink too much but keep going anyway. Even having a snowfall would likely be too soft within 2 days. (It takes about 4-5 hours to cover the trail system when breaking open the trails.) Next year I will try to remember to advise the patrons of the trail when I cease my operations on the trail. Jay Fedorocko.

Grooming equates to breaking the trail open after a substantial snowfall with large wood snowshoes (Woodies). Please note that the former trailhead on Archambeau Road is now closed, and the far upper loop of the Orange Trail snowshoe trail segment has now been given over to the cross country ski trail.

Courtney Lake Ski Trails

Trail is groomed and tracked. Snow conditions, frozen drifts along the lakes, and snowmobile use in the campground and on FR 1964 made the groomed track rougher. Most of the trail has a decent track considering the conditions. The plowed road outside the campground gate and the trailhead parking area are showing bare spots. Without new snow, grooming the entire trail will soon become difficult.

The trailhead is located near the intersection of M-38 and Courtney Lake Road (FR 1960). The trails are groomed for classic cross country skiing and can be used in any direction. It is a dog friendly system. Please pick up droppings and keep the dog under control (use a leash if needed). Please do not walk on groomed trails without snowshoes OR step on the set tracks. Walkers in boots can cause damage to the groomed surface, which can trip up skiers. The Ottawa National Forest (US Department of Agriculture / US Forest Service) manages this system and may be contacted at (906) 358-4551.

Pinery Lakes Ski Trail is a narrow trail traversing pine and hardwood forests. The trail is groomed for classic skiing only. Snowshoers are welcome to the side of the set track, please no dogs or walking on the groomed surface. From L'Anse, take Main Street/ Skanee Rd. north to Indian Cemetery Rd. Continue 2.1 miles and the trailhead will be on your right.

The Chassell Trail is a 8 km loop with access at the Chassell Heritage Center or the old Chassell ice rink, both on Hancock Street (one block west of US-41). The trailhead is located near the intersection of M-64 and Bergland Road. The trails are groomed for classic cross country skiing and can be used in any direction. It is a dog friendly system. Please pick up droppings and keep the dog under control (use a leash if needed). Please do not walk on groomed trails without snowshoes OR step on the set tracks. Walkers in boots can cause damage to the groomed surface, which can trip up skiers. The Ottawa National Forest (US Department of Agriculture / US Forest Service) manages this system and may be contacted at (906) 358-4551.
