2015-2016 Cross Country Ski Season Ends

Posted on

The 2015-2016 cross country ski season ended on April 16, with the final grooming of the Michigan Tech trails. It was a busy season that started somewhat later than the recent past. Michigan Tech hosted the US Cross Country Championships for the second year, and the Great Bear Chase at Swedetown saw a record attendance.

Just for grins, here are the starting and ending grooming dates for the last five seasons, culled from Keweenaw Trails trail reports.

Year – start date – end date

2015 – 2016 – Dec. 15 – April 16
2014 – 2015 – Nov. 11 – April 11
2013 – 2014 – Nov. 24 – April 28
2012 – 2013 – Nov. 13 – April 26
2011 – 2012 – Nov. 16 – Mar. 16

As you can see, the year started later than past years, but the end date was pretty much in line.

Thanks to the groomers who consistently submitted trails reports, and also to the Swedetown Trails Club, the Keweenaw Nordic Ski Club, Chassell Recreation, the folks in Copper Harbor, and Michigan Tech for providing the great trails and support for Nordic skiing.

Time to tune the bikes!
