Keweenaw Bike to Work Day is Thursday, May 15

Posted on

Bike commuters, from first-timers to experts, will be taking to the streets Thursday, May 15 for the sixth annual Keweenaw Bike to Work Day. Bike to Work Day, celebrated every May, encourages people to use bicycles as transportation to work, school and errands, while reminding motorists to watch for cyclists and share the roads.

Organized by a new regional bike advocacy group called Bike Initiative Keweenaw (BIKE), the event features seven refueling stations where cyclists can say hello to volunteers and share hot and cold beverages and light snacks from 7-9 a.m. and 4-6 p.m. The stations will be located on the Houghton Waterfront Trail near the Portage Lake Lift Bridge, on the Michigan Tech campus, in McGann’s parking lot on Hancock Street in Hancock, on Campus Drive near Portage Health, in Calumet on Highway 41 by the CLK Schools, on M-26 at Lake Linden Village Park, and on M-26 in South Range.

Participants who register on-line at the survey link atwww.kb2wd.org, or at the snack stops, will be entered in a drawing for raffle prizes donated by area bike shops.
