Spring Grooming and Skier Courtesy
As spring conditions come to the Keweenaw, the grooming pattern changes from the typical winter early morning effort to an evening affair. Groomers will refresh the skate lanes daily and occasionally re-set the classic tracks.
Early evening grooming allows the trail to “set up” overnight, meaning that the day’s ruts are removed and the snow re-freezes in that corduroy pattern we love to see. This process also allows the trail to maintain snow for as long as possible, while providing excellent spring skiing.

Hungarian Falls Snowshoe Hike March 15
The Keweenaw Land Trust will host a snowshoe hike Sunday, March 15, at the Hungarian Falls Nature Area. The hike departs at 2 pm from the area where the plow line ends on the north side of Golf Course Road. The hike will likely last for 1 to 1.5 hours and trekking poles are recommended. Keweenaw Land Trust Land Jam April 11
The third annual Keweenaw Land Trust Land Jam fundraising concert will be held on Saturday, April 11, at the Orpheum Theater in Hancock. This year’s event will feature music by Adam Kentala and Tony Laux, and Keweenaw Brewgrass. The fundraiser will help raise money to benefit the Keweenaw Land Trust’s Grand Slam land protection campaign to establish nature areas on the Abbaye Peninsula, Princess Point and to expand Paavola Wetlands. Ski Tigers Announces Spring Gear Swap – April 11
The annual spring gear swap will take place Saturday, April 11, 2015, at the Houghton High School multi-purpose room, from 10 am until 12:30 pm. All outdoor gear welcome, including bikes, skis, snowboards, kayaks, racks, camping equipment and climbing gear.
Drop off your gear Friday, April 10, between 5-7:30 pm or Saturday morning between 9 and 9:45 am. Pick up unsold items and payment 1-1:30 pm on Saturday. 15% of sales goes to Ski Tigers Nordic race team ($50 maximum commission). Details at skitigers.com
