Keweenaw Land Trust Social at Marsin Nature Retreat
The Keweenaw Land Trust invites you to stop by the Marsin Nature Retreat on Sunday, March 1, 2015, for a fireside social. The event kicks off at 2:00 PM and will end about 6:30 pm, and is open to the public at no charge. This relaxed, indoor event is a great opportunity to learn more about the Marsin story and facility, meet new friends, and get the inside scoop on what’s been going on at KLT. We’ll have the fire stoked and plenty of room for you and your friends or family to stop by after an afternoon of adventuring in the Keweenaw’s snowy lands. KLT will have some games on hand, but feel free to bring your own. There will be a small potluck and we encourage you to bring a dish along to share. Please bring your own tableware.

Glide N Gorge Sunday , March 1
The Keweenaw Nordic Ski Club’s annual Glide N Gorge is coming Sunday, March 1. The event features a ski through the Swedetown Creek gorge at the Maasto Hiihto trails in Hancock, with food stops along the way. Tickets are available at Down Wind Sports in Houghton and Cross Country Sports in Calumet. They are $20 until Friday, Feb 27, then $25 on the day of the event at the Four Seasons Chalet just north of the Houghton County Arena. You can also have a $20 ticket held for you at the chalet by contacting Candi at 281-5294 or cjsilvola@chartermi.net.

Great Bear Chase Looking for Volunteers
The Great Bear Chase will take place Saturday, March 7 at Swedetown trails in Calumet. The race needs about 75 volunteers to make the event successful. Please consider volunteering on Friday or Saturday, March 6-7, if you are able. Green Film Series Continues Feb. 19
This month’s film is Forks Over Knives, to be shown on Thursday, February 19th. Forks Over Knives examines the profound claim that many of the degenerative diseases that afflict us can be controlled, or even reversed, by rejecting our present menu of animal-based and processed foods. The film features leading experts on health, examines the question “why we don’t know,” and tackles the issue of diet and disease in new and engaging ways.
The film will be shown in Hesterberg Hall in the Michigan Tech Forestry Building. The film will begin at 7:00 PM. Ray Sharp from the Community Planning & Preparedness team at the Western U. P. Health Department will lead a discussion after the film. The event is free and open to the public, though donations are appreciated. Delicious snacks and refreshments will be provided by the Keweenaw Co-Op for this month’s film.
