Copper Island Classic on Hiatus in 2013
The annual Copper Island Classic ski race, scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 20, 2013, in Chassell, will go on hiatus this year. A series of events have transpired that will prevent the event from being held. The race has been held for 30-plus years. Jim Tervo has done the planning and organizing for many of those and deserves a huge thank-you for making it quite a bit of fun, particularly with the “guess your time” category that gives everyone a shot at podium glory!
Thinking ahead to next year, we’re looking for individuals or organizations that might be interested in taking over the planning and organizing of this event. Those of you who know Jim know that he isn’t lacking for things to do with his time, and this seems to be a good opportunity to make a transition. If you or your organization are interested, or just want more information about what’s involved, just send Jim an email at jct@up.net, or email me at deanwoodbeck@gmail.com.
Jim, of course, will continue to groom the trails at Chassell (should Heikki Lunta ever decide to cooperate).
