Swedetown Winter Trails Day January 10

swedetown-trails-logoSwedetown Winter Trails Day is Sunday, January 10th. Predictions are for a fine winter day, bring your camera!
 
Free skiing and snowshoeing offered all day; the normal day pass rate of $10 is not charged on Winter Trails Day. If you have a membership at other local trails, this will be a great time to visit Swedetown and try all the great trails. Swedetown Trails Club members will be on hand to suggest trails to explore.

Swedetown Lights on ’til Midnight New Year’s Eve

Swedetown will set the trail lights to stay on until midnight on New Year’s Eve! Come on out and enjoy a special evening on our lighted trails. Lower level with restrooms, drinking water and changing room will be open as well. Chalet snack bar and upstairs lounge hours for December 31st are noon to 8 p.m.

Michigan Tech Hosting U.S. Cross Country Championships Jan. 3-9

Michigan Tech will host the 2016 U.S. Skiing Championships at the Nordic Training Center (better known as the Tech Trails), with Jan. 3-9, 2016. 

The event will consist of four race days: classic distance races on Jan. 3, freestyle sprint races on Jan. 4, freestyle distance races on Jan. 7 and classic sprints on Jan. 9. All races start at 10 am.

With the help of a supportive community and network of volunteers, Michigan Tech has successfully hosted four U.S. championship events, including the Junior Nationals in 2006, and the U.S. Cross Country Championships in 2007, 2008 and 2015.

Grooming Changes at Michigan Tech During U.S. Championship

Michigan Tech will host the U.S. Cross Country Skiing Championships at the Tech Trails, with the first race January 3. However, there will be grooming changes in the days leading up to the competition, starting on December 31.

The main trailhead and all of the competition trails (upper loops) will be closed on race days (Jan. 3, Jan. 4, Jan. 7, and Jan. 9). Isle Royale and Superior (the dog loops) will remain open all week and accessible from the softball fields. The Tolkein Trails will also be open all week.
