Main Tech Trails and Nara Trails Closed Dec. 23
To preserve snow in the face of the rain that is forecast for Dec. 23, the Michigan Tech Trails main trails and the Nara trails are closed Wednesday, Dec. 23. The Pilgrim (Tolkein) Trails and the Isle Royale loop remain open. The closure is to preserve snow for the U.S. championships coming Jan 3-9, 2016.

Luminary Ski Dec. 26 at Maasto Hiihto
A family 2km luminary ski will be hosted on the Maasto Hiihto ski trail by the Keweenaw Nordic Ski Club on Saturday December 26th from 6-8pm. The candlelit trail starts at the Four Seasons Chalet at the north end of the Houghton County Fairgrounds. All ages of skiers, snowshoers and snow bikers are welcome for this free event. Bring your extra Christmas cookies to share if you have them. For more information call 281-1486.

KNSC Hosts Waxing Clinic Dec. 12
The Keweenaw Nordic Ski Club is hosting a Cross Countr Ski Waxing Clinic this Saturday, December 12, at 1 pm at the Hancock chalet behind the Houghton County Fairgrounds. Snow Bike Trail Grooming Planned for Churning Rapids
A group of snow bike enthusiasts have announced an agreement to groom six miles of snow bike trails at the Churning Rapids trail system this winter (see a map). The trailhead will be at the M-2013 and Christensen Road intersection, about six miles from Hancock. Trails will be groomed to 30″ wide and accessible for snow bikes, cross country skis, and snowshoes (no walkers). There is no trail pass for this and grooming will be funded through donations via the group’s Facebook page. Continue reading →
