Keweenaw Chain Drive Festival Retires

After 20 years of drawing mountain bike riders to the Keweenaw, the Keweenaw Chain Drive Festival organizing committee has decided to retire the event.

“We’ve had a good run,” said co-founder and organizing committee member Dan Dalquist. “We feel the race has had a positive impact on mountain biking’s growth in the area in terms of local riders, the availability of local trails, and the large number of out of town riders we see here every weekend.”

Snowshoe Hike at Steve Farm January 31

The Keweenaw Land Trust will host a snowshoe hike at the Steve Farm Nature Area outside of Dollar Bay on Saturday, January 31The guided hike will lead you to several of the nature area’s most stunning wintry features, including icy beaver dams, snowy pines, and frozen wetlands that are all but impenetrable at any other time of year. The hike begins at 1:00 PM. More information about the nature area is on the KLT website.

Snowshoe Hike to O Kun de Kun Falls January 31

The Peter Wolfe Chapter of the North Country Trail Association invites interested snowshoers to a hike to O Kun de Kun Falls on Saturday, January 31 at 2 pm ET. This is a 3.5 mile round trip snowshoe to see two beautiful frozen waterfalls and a spectacular suspension bridge over the Baltimore River. Bring water and a snack.

The trail head is on the east side of US-45, about six miles south of the intersection with M-26. For more information on the Peter Wolfe Chapter, see the group’s web page.
