Volunteers Needed for Dec 20-21 JNQ, January US Nationals
Michigan Tech and the Keweenaw will host two large ski events in the next few weeks and volunteers are needed.
On December 20-21, 2014, the Tech Trails will host a Junior National Qualifier for junior skiers from Michigan, Wisconsin, and Minnesota. There is a classic sprint on Saturday, December 20, and a classic mass start on Sunday, December 21. If you have some time on either or both days, please complete this volunteer form.
Tech will host the 2015 U.S. Cross Country Championships, with four race days in early January (Jan. 4, 5, 8, and 10). If you have all or part of any of those days available please complete this volunteer form.

Renewable Energy Leader to Speak Dec. 11
This month’s speaker in the 2014 Green Lecture Series, sponsored by the Keweenaw Land Trust, is Rich VanderVeen, founder and president of Mackinaw Power, and a renewable energy leader in Michigan. Dec. 6 Event to Benefit Replacing Maasto Hiihto Bridge
Help replace one of the failing bridges to keep the trails connected and groomed. KNSC will hold the second annual Middle Bridge Music Jam Saturday, Dec 6th>, at the Orpheum Theater in downtown Hancock. The event runs from 6-11 pm and music starts at 7:30. Bands include Realtime Jazz, Keweenaw Brewgrass, and the PasiCats. Details, including ticket locations and prices, at www.maastobridgejam.com

Great Bear Chase Adds Skiathlon for 2015
Competitors have a new event to choose from for the Great Bear Chase Ski Marathon, March 7, 2015, in Calumet, Michigan, hosted by UP Health System. Race organizers have added a skiathlon event to the lineup. Registration is now open at www.greatbearchase.com.
Skiers entering the 50km skiathlon will complete the first 25km using classic technique on the Swedetown Trails race course, change skis in the exchange area in the stadium, and ski the next 25km freestyle. The skiathlon will have prize money for the top four male and female winners, and awards for the top three skiers in each age group. Continue reading →
