Fat Tuesdays at Swedetown

Fat Tuesdays will start next Tuesday, December 31, 2013, at the Swedetown trails. Fat Tuesdays promote snow bikes, which are allowed on the trails after 5 pm on Tuesdays only. Bikes must have 3.5″ tires or larger. If conditions are too soft, please don’t ride. If you have to walk a hill, walk on edge of trail opposite of tracks. Bikes must always yield to skiers. A day or annual pass is also required.

First Moonlight Ski Saturday (Dec. 14)

The Keweenaw Nordic Ski Club will hold its first moonlight ski of the season on Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013. Meet at 6:30 pm at the Maasto Hiihto Tomasi Road trailhead (near the Hancock Department of Public Works garage). The bonfire is held near the bottom of Sisu Hill on the River Trail in the Swedetown Creek gorge.

Swedetown Chalet Opens for Season

The Swedetown Chalet opens opens for the season at noon on Friday, December 13th. Come up and say hi! Free coffee. Weekend hours for the upper level with concessions, woodstove and skier lounge are Saturday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Open Monday and Tuesday – noon to 5 p.m., and Wednesday, Thursday, Friday – noon to 8 p.m.

Wax Clinic December 11 at Nara Center

Toko Ski Wax technical support team member Mike Young will demonstrate the basics of waxing cross-country skis and will answer questions from participants. The clinic begins at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, December 11. The location is the Nara Center on US-41 south of the Michigan Tech campus, just north of the Pilgrim River. The clinic is sponsored by the Michigan Tech Nordic Ski Club and is free and open to the public.
