Ski for the Key Coming February 8
Ski for the Key, formerly known as “Ski for the Heart of the Community,” will take place Saturday, February 8, 2014, at the Swedetown Trails in Calumet. The event raises money to benefit two Keweenaw organizations: Omega House, which provides residential hospice care, and the Swedetown Trails Club, responsible for maintaining the Swedetown ski and mountain bike trails. Registration Open for 2014 Great Bear Chase
Registration is now open for the 34th annual Portage Health Great Bear Chase ski marathon. The race will take place Saturday, March 8, 2014, at the Swedetown Trails in Calumet. To register go to www.greatbearchase.com/registration. The 2014 Great Bear Chase features six races: freestyle and classic styles in 10km, 25km, and 50 km distances. Chili Chase for Charity Slated January 4, 2014
The Houghton High School National Honor Society is hosting a race to benefit SKY charity, as well as money to help maintenance costs at the MTU trails. The race, called the Chili Chase for Charity, will be held at the main tech trails trailhead on Jan. 4, with the first race starting at 9AM. It will include a 5km skate, 5km classic, 10km freestyle, and a 5km+10km category for those who want to do both races. There will also be a 2.5km snowshoe race starting from the MTU ballfields. There will be a chili lunch and awards following the races at 12 noon (free for racers). For more information, see chilichase.tk.
