Excellent Conditions for Great Bear Chase
The Great Bear Chase is Saturday, March 9, 2013, and the Swedetown trails are in great shape, with more than two feet of base in most places. Online registration is open now through Friday at 6 pm. In-person registration is available Friday, 3:30-8:30 pm, at Calumet High School. Your choice of 14k, 25k, or 50k — classic or freestyle.

Land Trust Hosts Snowshoe Outing at Pilgrim River Watershed
The Keweenaw Land Trust will host an outing on March 9, 2013, exploring the Pilgrim River Watershed Project. Attendees will get an in-depth tour of a local sustainably managed forest that offers excellent recreational and educational opportunities. Tech Hosting NCAA Regionals Feb. 23-24; Some Trails Closed
Michigan Tech will host the NCAA collegiate cross country ski regionals this weekend, so trail availability will vary. The main trailhead and competition trails (all trails connecting to Core Loop) will be closed to recreational skiing from dawn to approximately 4 pm Saturday and Sunday. Ski Tigers Take State Champs; Delong Wins Individual Title
The Copper Country Ski Tigers won the team trophy at the 2013 Michigan High School Cross-Country Skiing Championships at Al Quall Trails in Ishpeming February 16. Senior Evelyn DeLong won the individual state girls title, taking both the sprint title on Friday, Feb. 15, and the pursuit title on Saturday, Feb. 16.
The Copper Country girls won in convincing fashion, while the boys team was edged by Marquette after a tough-fought two-day competition. Continue reading →
