Registration Open for Copper Harbor Women’s Weekend

The Copper Harbor Trails Club will host a women’s weekend, July 19-21, 2013, for mountain bikers looking to improve their skills. Professional rider and coach Lindsey Voreis will attend, along with other top coaches. All skill levels are welcome. The club’s website includes complete information and online registration.

2013 Canal Run Adds Half Marathon

Canal Run adds half marathonThe Portage Health Canal Run is adding a half marathon for the 38th annual event on July 20, 2013. The half-marathon course will begin on Koskela Road in Calumet Township (about three miles north of McLain State Park), and merge onto M-203 to follow the same course as the other races. The half marathon will be open only to runners (not walkers) in 2013. Continue reading →

Lots O’ Base

Most of the cross country ski trails report at least 2.5 feet of base. Temperatures are in the mid-30s to 40 during the day, below freezing at night. In general, trails in excellent condition with plenty of skiing left this winter.

Bear Chase Saturday; Swedetown Trails Closed

The Great Bear Chase has seen a surge in registrations over the last two days and 400 skiers will take to the race course Saturday morning, with 14k, 25k, and 50k races on tap. The Swedetown Trails will be closed to recreational skiing.
