Join the National Bike Challenge and Keep Houghton on Top!

Our community is again proving its dedication to bicycles and is currently ranked among the top 15 cities in the National Bike Challenge! Houghton leads the Michigan contingent and a few local riders have been atop the leaderboard within the past month. The Challenge is a program from Bikes Belong and the League of American Bicyclists that allows metropolitan areas from across the country to complete virtually in a running tally of bicycle commuting miles. Copperman Deadline Approaching; Volunteers Needed

The 2012 Copperman Triathlon will take place Saturday, August 3, in Copper Harbor (staging at the Ft. Wilkins boat ramp). Registration Deadline is 11:59 PM on Wednesday, July 18th. Register for the Canal Run; Volunteers Needed, Too

The 37th Annual Canal Run is set for Saturday, July 21. The long standing tradition is held along the Portage Waterway on Highway M-203. Both the 10 mile run and 10 mile walk start at McLain State Park and finish in downtown Hancock. The 5 mile run and 5 mile walk start on High Point Road, also finishing in downtown Hancock. Portage Health Junior Mountain Biking Program Begins

The Portage Health Junior Mountain Biking FREE Program will kick off Tuesday, June 19th.  Meet at Portage Health at 6:30pm.  The Junior Mountain Biking Program provides an organized venue for getting kids ages 10 & up (younger with appropriate skills or guardian present) out on the trails on a weekly basis. The program will run from June 19th until August 14th and meet at different trail systems each week. See the tentative schedule below. Continue reading →
