Registration Open for 2013 Great Bear Chase
Registration is open for the 32nd annual Great Bear Chase ski marathon, Saturday, March 9, 2013, at the Swedetown trails in Calumet. Skiers can choose from among 50k classic and freestyle, 25k classic and freestyle, and 14k classic and freestyle races. Keweenaw Land Trust Annual Meeting Dec. 9
The Keweenaw Land Trust will its 2012 Annual Meeting Sunday, December 9th, at the Michigan Tech U.J. Noblet Forestry Building. The meeting is open to the public and begins at 1 PM (with the business meeting), and a presentation at 2:15 by Joe Maki from the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality on Michigan’s mining permitting process. Refreshments will be available and there will be a nature-oriented silent auction.

Tech Trails Hosting Collegiate Races Dec. 1-2
Michigan Tech will host collegiate races on Saturday and Sunday, December 1-2, 2012, which means closing some trails to recreational skiing. Closed trails will include the main trailhead and all of the loops that connect to Core Loop. Those wishing to ski at MTU this weekend should use the softball field trailhead (access to Isle Royale and Superior Loops), the Nara Trailhead, or the Pilgrim Road Trailhead (classic-only). Grooming Starts at Swedetown, Tech
November 24, 2012 — Swedetown and Michigan Tech both groomed for the second day today, with 8-12″ of snow reported around the area over the last two days. Tech is grooming the upper loops, including Core and all of the loops that start/end at Core, plus Isle Royale and Superior. Lights are on until 9 pm daily. Swedetown is grooming Valley, Cedar, Birch, Tamarack, and Len’s. At Swedetown, be aware that deer hunting is allowed on the land and the season runs through November 30.
